BSc Hons in Information Technology

The Faculty's flagship honours degree in software engineering, systems and intelligent applications

Overview

The BSc Hons in Information Technology is the flagship four-year honours degree of the Department of Information Technology, comprising more than 80% core IT content and preparing graduates to design, build and manage the software systems modern organisations depend on. Admission is through the national university intake administered by the University Grants Commission.

The first two years build strong foundations across programming, mathematics, computer systems and databases, delivered through core modules the Department imparts to every degree programme in the Faculty. The final two years move into advanced and regularly updated material in software engineering, networks and intelligent systems, with dedicated project modules in Levels 1, 2 and 4, an independent study module in Level 3, and a six-month industrial training placement with one of the Faculty's partner companies.

Students have secured championships in major national and international IT competitions for several consecutive years, and graduates are recognised for one of the highest employment rates in the university system, with almost every graduate employed by the time they reach convocation. Graduates are also eligible for professional membership pathways with the Computer Society of Sri Lanka.
